Ultimate responsibility for the processing of personal data at KU Leuven lies with the institution. The Privacy Team for General Processing of Personal Data, the Privacy and Ethics Unit, and the Clinical Trial Centre (CTC) are responsible for monitoring compliance with the GDPR. A data protection officer has been appointed both for the Privacy Team for General Processing of Personal Data and for the Privacy and Ethics Unit. CTC staff closely collaborate with Leuven University Hospitals’ data protection officer. There is regular consultation among staff responsible for compliance with the GDPR in research and public service contexts. If operational problems occur and it is necessary to contact the data protection authority, the members of the Privacy Team for General Processing of Personal Data and the Privacy and Ethics Unit will consult with the Information Security Steering Group, which bears ultimate responsibility for operational decisions and for contacting the supervisory authority.
